EPIC Rx Board Member Spotlight: Ken Reed

Ken Reed, along with each EPIC Rx Board of Directors member, is an independent pharmacy owner. His pharmacies serve communities in three states: West Virginia, Virginia, and Maryland.

As a student at West Virginia University School of Pharmacy, class of 1992, Ken met his now wife, who shares his love for community pharmacy. They opened the first Reed’s Pharmacy in 1998 and now have 5 locations. After over two decades and four children later, he and his wife are still very passionate about serving communities through independent pharmacies.

Ken quickly noticed the strong connection between independent pharmacy and policymakers. He ran for Congress in 2012, became county commissioner a few years later, and then a delegate for the West Virginia House. During his time as a delegate, the House took on powerful PBM lobbyists and positively impacted the independent pharmacy community. Ken is currently running for West Virginia Secretary of State to continue his advocacy for independent pharmacies.

Working with EPIC Rx on the Board of Directors since 2015 has provided him with “valuable experience in leadership and problem-solving,” and he enjoys interacting with other board members.

When asked what makes EPIC Rx and EPIC Pharmacy Network (EPN) stand out, Ken replied that “the skill and work ethic of the negotiation team and support staff is unmatched” and that EPN is one of the only remaining non-wholesale-owned PSAOs in the industry.

“The major advantage of being an EPIC Rx member is that it is member owned.” Decisions and improvements of the Board of Directors are beneficial for all member pharmacies. EPIC Rx has helped Reed’s Pharmacy primarily by negotiating PBM and wholesaler contracts with the collective power of our independent pharmacy network across the U.S.
